Access to Work Dyslexia Coaching
Dyslexia affects far more than reading and writing. Many adults describe challenges with working memory, processing speed, sequencing, organisation, time awareness and communication clarity. These differences can make certain workplace tasks feel harder than they appear to others, especially when information is delivered quickly or without structure.
Dyslexia often overlaps with ADHD, Autism or Dyspraxia, which is why many people feel their experiences do not fit neatly into one diagnostic category. You may recognise strengths in creativity, problem‑solving, visual thinking or big‑picture planning alongside challenges with detail‑heavy or fast‑paced tasks.
If you are still exploring how dyslexia shows up in your working life, that is completely okay. You do not need a perfect understanding of your neurotype for Access to Work coaching to be effective.
Through Access to Work coaching, we build personalised strategies that support your processing style, reduce overwhelm and help you work with your natural strengths.
How Dyslexia Shows Up in a Working Life
Dyslexic processing does not pause when you start your workday. Working memory strain, sequencing challenges and communication pressure often continue into evenings and weekends. When your workday requires rapid reading, detailed written communication or constant switching, evenings can become recovery time rather than rest.
Dyslexia can influence:
- working memory and information retention
- processing speed and time awareness
- organisation and sequencing
- written communication and clarity
- task initiation and task switching
- overwhelm in fast‑paced or detail‑heavy environments
- difficulty interpreting complex instructions
- burnout from masking or compensating
Many dyslexic adults also experience ADHD traits, autistic processing differences or dyspraxic coordination challenges. Coaching supports this blended profile.
The sections below are here to give you a sense of what we might explore. You do not need to relate to every point.
Collaborative Support for Managers and HR Teams
Workplace conversations can feel overwhelming when communication differences, processing speed or working memory challenges are involved. Your Access to Work package can include liaison with your employer. This may involve adjustment recommendations, manager briefings or meeting support.
If you choose to involve your manager or HR representative, I can help translate your internal strategies into practical workplace accommodations. This collaborative approach reduces pressure and helps your employer understand your processing style so they can create an environment where you can thrive.
Focus Areas for Your Strategy Sessions
Working Memory and Information Processing Exploring tools that help you retain information, reduce cognitive load and stay oriented during complex tasks.
Organisation and Sequencing Building systems that support planning, task breakdown, workflow structure and predictable routines.
Communication Clarity Developing approaches that support written and verbal communication, reduce pressure and improve confidence.
Task Initiation and Switching Creating strategies that help you start tasks, maintain momentum and switch between activities without losing orientation.
Time Awareness and Structure Exploring ways to manage time blindness, create sustainable routines and reduce last‑minute stress.
Energy and Burnout Management Identifying patterns that lead to exhaustion and building sustainable working habits that support long‑term wellbeing.
What to Expect in Sessions
Sessions are calm, structured and collaborative. We begin by grounding the conversation in your current working life. You are welcome to bring specific challenges, ongoing patterns or general feelings of overwhelm.
We explore your processing style, workplace expectations and the situations that create pressure. Together, we identify practical strategies that support your role and build your internal toolkit. This may include planning systems, communication approaches, working memory supports or ways to manage energy and recovery time.
You set the pace. Some sessions focus on a single challenge, while others explore broader patterns. Everything is shaped around your lived experience and the realities of your working day.
If your Access to Work package includes employer liaison, we can also prepare for conversations with your manager or HR representative so you feel confident explaining your needs.
Providing Quotes for Your Access to Work Assessor
Access to Work assessors often ask applicants to provide three quotes from specialist coaching providers. I can prepare a clear, assessor‑aligned quote that includes recommended coaching hours, cost per session, HR liaison, workplace strategy coaching and executive function support.
You are free to choose whichever coach you prefer. Assessors request three quotes to understand the range of support available.
If your case worker has asked for a quote, I can prepare this for you immediately. Just drop me a message via my contact page or arrange a chat to talk through your needs.
